What we’re building
Two native iOS apps in active development. Both are built the same way: focused, native, and designed to keep your data on your device.
RunApp (working title)
iPhone · iOS 18 and later
A workout tracker for people who just want to see their runs and rides.
It records your runs and rides and keeps a simple history of them. No feed, no followers, no kudos. Just your own training, laid out so you can actually read it.
It tracks your route with GPS and draws it on a map, so you can look back at where you went. And if you already use a watch or a bike computer, it reads the .fit files those save, so the activities you've already logged come along with you.
What it does
- Record runs, rides, and other activities with GPS route tracking
- Import .fit files from watches and bike computers
- See routes on the map with distance, pace, and elapsed time
- Read and write workouts through Apple Health
- Connect a Bluetooth heart-rate monitor
- Follow a training plan and check progress from a home-screen widget
- Your activity history stays on your phone
Your data: It uses your location (including in the background) to record routes, motion data to estimate cadence and steps, Bluetooth to read a heart-rate strap, and Apple Health to read and save workouts. That information stays on your phone and in Apple Health. Hemlock East never receives it.
NightGlass
iPhone · iOS 17 and later
Hold up your phone and learn the sky above you.
Point your phone at the sky and NightGlass shows you what's actually up there: the stars, planets, and constellations above you right now, from wherever you happen to be standing.
It works out where the Sun, Moon, and planets are right on your phone, using the same models astronomers rely on. Once it's installed, you don't need a signal to use any of it.
What it does
- Point your phone at the sky to identify stars, planets, and constellations
- Live positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets, worked out on your phone
- Browse Messier deep-sky objects and constellation figures
- Watch the current phase of the Moon
- Search for an object and read about what you find
- Keep a life list of what you've seen and save your favorites
Your data: It uses your location and your phone's motion sensors to show the sky from where you're standing and to match the view to where you point. That happens entirely on your phone. Hemlock East never receives it.
